Emily Fisher really, really doesn’t want to be the Prophesied One of the Children of the New Revelation. Pity, then, that at least half a dozen people already know she is. Because if people think you are something, they will develop expectations accordingly. And this is something Emily doesn’t even want to acknowledge. She is in “Denial,” chapter 44 of Prophecies and Penalties, and she’s got only this and two more chapters to get it right.

“… already at least half a dozen people already know she is.”
All right, already!!
Thank you. Fixed.
OMG what a gorgeous landscape..the rocks, the clouds, the light…just the sort of image I love.
I haven’t read it yet, but sometimes when enough people think something of you, and treat you this way, the idea registers with you. Or with her. And this is my bet!
I’ll let you judge that based on this and the next two chapters, Dana. đŸ˜‰
ditto Judy on the painting. Excellent choice!
I think I used another Bierstadt painting on this blog, but I don’t remember when.
Yea, I do recollect a painting that might have been from the same artist. No, I’m not going to scroll through until I find it. I do admit, I’m not familiar with the artist, but off top of the head, I’d say German Romantics.
The painter is German-American.
“The painting is named after Bierstadt’s mistress and, at the time, his friend’s wife, Rosalie Osborne Ludlow.” Had to look it up…so its Mt Rosalie!! Prettiest mountain name I ever heard of!!
But, best friend’s wife…only a guy who can paint mountains and clouds like that can get away with it and be forgiven. Maybe that is why there is a storm over the mountains.
It’s funny you say that, Judy, because I just finished a novel, Christopher Priest’s “The Islanders,” in which one of the recurring characters is a painter who routinely seduces the wives and daughters of his hosts. But he’s forgiven his character sins by a world which appreciates his art.
By the way, I mentioned to CP that I found my other post featuring a Bierstadt painting:
