Harry Eberhardt has walked into a trap. People are coming for him and his associates. So we should expect Harry to react with his customary initiative, bravery, quick thinking, and resourcefulness. Which is exactly what he does. Too bad Harry’s a bit short on those qualities. Harry is “Trapped” in chapter 19 of Magician’s Misfortune, and if he doesn’t like it, he’s going to dislike what happens next even more.

What is the difference between a maze and a labyrinth? I remember reading it somewhere, but sieve-brain as I am, I don’t remember.
The quondam distinction is that labyrinths have only one path to the center.
Ah. See, I knew there was a difference; it’s not just a matter of finding the Minotaur, or not.
Goal of labyrinth: die while finding route out.
I thought goal of labyrinth was to feed the wild life. Get into the bestiality-scene. Though I’m not at all sure that’s what ‘dogging’ means. Beyond me. Innocence itself, I don’t understand these things. These days.
OK, not to accuse you of an Ambien-fueled kinky-sex-and-murder spree, but the number of people killed by being gored with what looks like bull horns (as opposed to bullhorns) in Yarmouth is becoming a might conspicuous.
Nah! That’s a vicious lie, of the same ilk as that one that I’m a man-eater. I said at the time, it was lie put about by the men I’d eaten. Now, excuse me, but you’d think they’d be . . . well, if not actually grateful, at least not complaining, Oh well, can’t satisfy everyone–or at least not all of the time. 😉 😉 😉
Tossing the bull, are we? Though I don’t think that qualifies as a labyrinthine explanation.
oh
For the second time, I can’t believe I’m doing this, defending Harry. But he has been witty and resourcful and brave before… Let’s see what happens now.
And so now we know what a likable heel is like!
